Jaime Arango Correa (1953–2025) was a seminal figure in Colombian contemporary art and one of the country’s leading voices within the Informalist movement. Trained in Medellín and later shaped by formative years in Barcelona and Madrid, his work reflected a profound dialogue between material, gesture, and meaning. Deeply influenced by Antoni Tàpies, Arango developed a visual language grounded in texture, abstraction, and the poetic use of discarded materials—blurring the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Upon returning to Colombia in the 1980s, he became a vital force in the national art scene, exhibiting alongside renowned artists and founding the Taller Experimental de Artes Plásticas, where he mentored a generation of emerging talent.
